About The Extract

How is it made?

Our extraction includes 3 ingredients: Lion's Mane Mushrooms, non-GMO organic cane alcohol, and pure Catskill mountain water. We mindfully create an alcohol tincture, a cold water infusion, and a hot water decoction which are combined. This ensures that the concentrated health components of each mushroom are of the highest quality and can be optimally absorbed by your body. We take pride in preparing our Lion's Mane extract from wood-grown mushrooms cultivated at a local farm and on our family farm in the heart of the Catskill Mountains. Our mushrooms are sun-dried to accumulate vitamin D and dehydrated before they are carefully prepared in small batches. What is this fungi?

Lion's Mane, Pom Pom, Bear's Head or Monkey Head is a Tooth Fungi. This is because the spore bearing surface is made of cascading, toothlike icicles as opposed to gills or pores. We mostly find it growing on beech in the Catskills from July to October after a heavy rain, but it can grow on a variety of hardwood stumps or logs. There are three species of Hericium (erinaceus, americana, and coralloides) which differentiate based on branching pattern. All three species have been shown to contain aromatic hericenones which is why some people consider it the "Nature's Nutrient for the Neurons".

It is unlikely to find enough of this mushroom for our extracts, therefore we have been cultivating it indoors on sawdust blocks and outdoors on logs. At this point we also support a few local mushroom farms (within 100 miles) by sourcing Hericium erinaceus for our extracts. This mushroom is distributed within North America, Europe, and Asia. It has been hailed in many parts of the world for its texture and flavor which resembles crab or lobster meat. You may be able to find this delicious mushroom at your local farmers market.
