- Chaga tincture
- Foraging hand lens and Mushroom journal
- Deeper connection with fungi, nature, self, and friends

From the largest living organism on the planet to the creation of soil, fungi play an essential role in sustaining life on earth. They have been recycling and helping to heal the planet for millennia.  Humans are learning to pair with fungi to improve our lives with the food and medicines this extraordinary kingdom/queendom has to offer.

Come explore the interesting and ancient relationship fungi have with our world and our culture. Learn about fungi and mushrooms in history and as we currently know them. Discussions will include: biology and ecology of fungi, mushrooms as food and medicine, how fungal allies can create resilience in our agriculture and communities, gardening with mushrooms, and mushrooms to heal the planet.

    June 21st Afternoon Mushroom Walk

Join a mushroom walk and learn about the ecological functions of fungi, common edibles and medicinal mushrooms, as well as historic uses of fungi and present day innovations of these fantastic Fungi!

    What to Expect:

We will start at the Shavertown Trail parking lot for a brief Fungi101 explanation as well as what to expect from our walk. We will carpool to our walk location near by and participants will get to borrow baskets, bags, and/or books to take with them as we head onto the easy, wide trail into the forest to learn about the fungi we find. We will talk about how to look for, sustainably harvest, and identify mushrooms. We talk about what is edible, medicinal uses, and how to prepare them. We will also focus on historic uses, current scientific trends, and present day innovations of the fungi we find. People of all ages are welcome to explore and get their questions answered. We will walk back to the parking lot and spread out all of our specimens on a table for further inspection. We can take a group photo which, along with other photos from the day, will be available on the Catskill Fungi Instagram/Facebook. Participants will get discounts of Catskill Fungi products that will be available for purchase.

Please dress for the weather. We will walk rain or shine. This means boots or sneakers.  Optional equipment would be a water bottle, bug/tick repellent, rain coat, or snacks. You are welcome to bring pictures of mushrooms you would like identified.

No bathrooms are available so please use them before meeting or plan to contribute your nitrogen to the forest floor.

    Kids

Students under the age of 16 are free. 16 years old and above must purchase tickets. Adults, bring only children directly under their care and at most 3 children per adult.

Please don't take advantage of this policy, otherwise we will have to charge for kids.

    Pets

I love them but no. Never met a dog on a walk that didn't step on the mushrooms or worse. Some people have allergies or fears of dogs.

    Cancelations

If you need to cancel please notify us via email. Email us at least 48 hour before the start of the walk and we will refund you.

Walks usually fill up so it is recommended you sign up in advance.

    See you in the woods!

Orange flier with a mushroom on it reads "mushroom church. Modern Biology and friends. An evening of mushroom music, ecology, and inspiration"

Mushroom Church - A Soundscape Experience

Featuring Tarun Nayar & John Michelotti

Science and Art come together as we appreciate the transformative power of fungi and celebrate more-than-human worlds.

Tarun Nayar / Modern Biology is a viral ‘mushroom musician’ who creates soundscapes from the bioelectric changes in plants and mushrooms. He’s invited some of his favourite mycologists, ecologists, poets and musicians to celebrate the plant and fungal kingdoms and inspire hope and resilience.

Expect a short scientific talk, poetry and musical performances, culminating in a live plant and mushroom music experience by Modern Biology in which listeners are encouraged to ‘try on’ plant and fungal consciousness, and expand their awareness to these more-than-human worlds. Also expect great sound and some amazing projection mapping in this gorgeous and historic church.

    About the artist:

Modern Biology has brought 'plant music' to the masses. Originally educated as a biologist, veteran musician Tarun Nayar brings his passion for nature and sound together in an ambient project that is organismic, immediate, uplifting, and deeply contextual. He uses modular synthesis, home built synthesizers and other analog equipment to improvise with the natural vibrations of a certain place and time - via plant bioelectricity, latent electromagnetic radiation, and even the earth’s resonant hum. Trained from childhood in Indian classical music, he uses the system of Indian raga to mold his musical choices for time of day and season. His performances are an effort to bring the listener into the present moment through vibration, space, and connection.
