This exciting fungi-filled day will begin with a mushroom walk in the morning, where we will learn about the ecological functions of fungi, common edibles and medicinal mushrooms, as well as historic uses of fungi and present-day innovations of these exceptional life forms. We’ll learn basic mushroom identification skills as we examine specimens found on our trail.
Lunch: Included in cost, local food grown on and around Deer Creek Herb Collective will be prepared by resident farmer Darich Perez Reyes. The meal will be prepared and served to accommodate food preferences.
Optional 45min Yoga: Yoga teacher Lana Heintjes will lead a gentle yoga for relaxation. $20 for those that would like to join the class.
Our afternoon will feature a hands-on workshop, where we will inoculate logs with edible mushroom spawn. Learn how to inoculate, store and take care of the logs, initiate fruiting, and harvest mushrooms.
John will also introduce other mushrooms that we can grow ourselves — such as wine caps on wood chips, and more. Come prepared with your mushroom questions! Inoculate two logs and take one home with all the knowledge and resources to order more spawn to create your own home mini mushroom farm.
Catskill Fungi mushroom extracts, mushroom-related books, t-shirts, and limited spawn will be available for purchase. Deer Creek CBD and herbal creations will also be for sale.
Come prepared with your mushroom questions! Closed-toe shoes are required. Wear outdoor clothes and bring garden gloves if desired.
Rain Date: Sunday July 18th
